Shakespeare in the Park
Since 2007, Shakespeare in the Park has been a summer tradition in the Greater Moncton area.
For Hubcity Theatre, it’s our opportunity to bring some of the best plays ever written to a local audience, and to make it accessible to those who may have never before seen a Shakespeare production.
It’s also a chance to showcase the immense talent our community has to offer, and to give newcomers their first taste of performing. Many of our actors have made their stage debut in Shakespeare in the Park! Even if you’ve never acted before, we encourage you to join us when it’s time for auditions.

What to expect as an audience member
Shakespeare in the Park takes place—as you might have guessed!—outdoors. Every live performance is unique, and in the park, that’s even truer. The weather itself often helps set the stage (we’ll never forget the performance of Richard III when the skies darkened and thunder rumbled just as Queen Margaret appeared to curse Richard and crew). Despite the challenges the outdoors may sometimes bring, there’s nothing like sitting in the park on a warm evening and listening to Shakespeare’s words as the sun goes down.
What to bring
A lawn chair or blanket to sit on (unless you reserve Sweet Seats—then we bring the chair for you!)
Sunglasses and/or a hat
A jacket or sweater in case it’s chilly later in the evening
Bug spray (the last 30 minutes or so of the night does tend to bring out unwanted attendees)
Snacks and drinks (non-alcoholic only, please!)
What if it’s bad weather?
If there’s a risk of thunderstorms or there’s a downpour, the performance will be moved indoors. On rare occasions, extreme heat may also cause us to move indoors. We aim to make an announcement at least an hour before showtime. Watch our social media accounts on show days for details and location of our backup venue.
