Contemporary Theatre

August: Osage County (2026)

Contemporary theatre has been a part of Hubcity Theatre history almost as long as Shakespeare has.

Art has the power to move us, change the way we see the world, and change the way we see each other. It also has the power to make us laugh, to keep us guessing, to help us forget about the real world for a moment and simply be entertained.

The shows we choose to produce aren’t confined to any one genre or style—our production history is intentionally eclectic and varied. They just have to make audiences feel.

In 2023, we produced our first musical—Jesus Christ Superstar. In our most ambitious project to date, we partnered with 1890 Junction Theatre Co. and Tutta Musica Orchestra to bring the iconic musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to Moncton audiences.

Musical Theatre

As a musical, it’s a truly human story of what it means to believe in what is right and to give of ourselves to others; and as any good piece of art, it contains the power to genuinely affect people.

We’re proud of our first foray into musical theatre—and we’re so excited for our next venture! Keep an eye out.

Staged readings

Our staged readings are at the heart of our community focus—not just in what we bring to audiences, but for cast and crew as well.

For those who are interested in getting involved in theatre for the first time, staged readings are an excellent way to step onstage for the first time in a lower-pressure environment. Over the years, our staged readings have also served as a way for our actors to try their hand at directing.
