The thriller that became the second-longest running play in West End history comes to Moncton just in time for Halloween in this chilling new production

A young solicitor sent to an isolated mansion to investigate a death. Foggy marshes hiding deadly dangers. Strange noises in the night. An unsettling presence the townspeople won’t speak of…

Featuring just two actors,The Woman in Black tells the tale of a man who recreates a terrifying experience from his past in a desperate attempt to finally escape it.

Brad Butland as ‘Actor’

Miguel Roy as ‘Kipps’

“I cannot carry the burden any longer. It must be told.”

THE WOMAN IN BLACK

based on the novel by SUSAN HILL

Brad Butland - Actor

A founder of Hubcity Theatre back in 2007, Brad has been performing in some capacity for over two decades.  His love of acting was kindled after studying Shakespeare and Drama at Regent's Park College, a part of Oxford University.  After a seven year hiatus to focus on family, Brad returned in 2024 as part of the provocative production "Stupid ****ing Bird".  Most recently Brad was part of Shakespeare in the Park's "The Comedy of Errors", as well as starring in the upcoming short horror film "The Hollowing" from award-winning director Spencer Hetherington.

Myles Botten is thrilled to be back with Hubcity Theatre. This time, dipping his toe into the directing pool. He'd like to thank his head director, Kelly Tynan for bringing him onto the project, as well as his stellar cast and production team. You've most likely seen Myles as an actor at other Hubcity shows such as The Comedy of Errors, August: Osage County, and Clue! He hopes you have a memorable Halloween night and a truly spooky time!

Cast & Creative

Myles Botten - Voice, Asst. Director, Dialect Coach

In 2020, Jake graduated from Mount Allison University with a minor in Drama Studies. Over the years he worked on a range of shows both on- and off-stage working in lighting design & operation, stage management and acting. His experience in Moncton includes a starring role in Roundhouse’s Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime in 2019 and 2024’s Stupid Fucking Bird, working behind-the-scenes as a Stage Manager for 2024’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and 2026’s A Comedy of Errors, and as a Lighting Designer in 2025’s CLUE. Jake hopes you enjoy what we’ve prepared for you tonight

Miguel Roy - Kipps

Miguel Roy is an Acadian theatre educator from Oromocto, New Brunswick who is currently living in Petitcodiac. He works as the director of the Musical Theatre program at the School of Atlantic Ballet, where he teaches performers aged 9-18. He is a lifelong lover of horror who fills his walls, bookshelf, and screens with horror iconography whenever he can.

His work with Hubcity Theatre has allowed him to show off his comedic capabilities as Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mr. Green in Clue. He is very excited to now dig into his personal love of dread for our presentation of The Woman in Black. Thank you all for coming.

Nadyne Kuhn - Voice

Nadyne Kuhn (she/her) is currently pursuing a Master’s in Comparative Canadian Literature at Université de Moncton and is thrilled to be part of the Woman in Black production. Her most recent acting credits with Hubcity Theatre include Adriana in The Comedy of Errors, Mrs. White in Clue on Stage, and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She was also in Teagan Anderson-Leger’s award-nominated short film “No Straws.” She has also worked offstage as both stage manager and ASM, and most recently behind the scenes on Teagan Anderson-Leger’s upcoming short film “Last Ditch.” Nadyne extends special thanks to Hubcity Theatre, Kelly Tynan, her friends, and her wonderful family for their support. Boo!

Kelly Tynan - Director, Production Designer

While waiting for lambs to arrive in what was once thought to be the adorable movie The Silence of the Lambs, Kelly is proud to say she didn't watch a man eat a face while sitting in a puddle of pee. Confident in her bladder’s ability to handle horror, she decided to direct The Woman in Black, a natural transition after directing the circus-themed comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where clowns ran amok.

If you were to take any dictionary of the English language and look up the word “Leadership”, you are very likely to find the definition of the word “Leadership”. But the cast and crew of HubCity Theatre’s production of The Woman in Black doesn’t abide by the logic of correctly defining words. We would instead see it defined as “Kelly Tynan”.

In retrospect, it would be difficult to learn English with this logic.

Kelly would like to take this moment to remind everyone that there is no substance to the rumours that she will be celebrating the completion of this production by frolicking in a clover field full of rabbits by moonlight with a Tim Minchin medley in her ears, before settling in to enjoy a fine Malbec as The Great Comet plays in the background.

The cast and crew think this sounds grand and that Kelly deserves nothing less for her patience, perseverance, determination and dedication to this fantastic project.

JB Vanier -
Sound Design

JB is happy to be stepping fully behind the scenes of this production as the sound designer for this show. He hops that the sounds really help transport the audience to another world. He neglected to write out a full bio this time because he had a kidney stone. He leaves it to the audience to determine if the blood curdling screams that are heard in the show are pre-recorded or actual recordings of him wandering his home at 2 AM like a haunted spectre as he passed his stone.
