Much ado about everything: Hubcity Theatre announces 2015 season
Moncton — A trip to a galaxy far away, lovers maliciously torn apart and college roommates with opposing personalities – these are just some of the stories Hubcity Theatre will bring to Moncton audiences this year. The theatre company officially announced its 2015 season today.
“For 2015, we are excited to bring fantasy, comedy and original work to our audiences,” said Artistic Director Paul David Power. “It`s going to be a fun year as we build on our solid reputation for classic theatre performances while also exploring new ways to expand theatrical offerings to audiences in the region.”
May the 4th Be With You: A Star Wars Stage Reading (The Moncton Peace Centre, 7:30 pm, May 1) Hubcity Theatre will begin its season with a community fundraiser. The company will be performing the script of Star Wars: A New Hope as a stage reading in recognition of May 4, known to many as ‘Star Wars Day’. “Think of it as a radio play with people from the local theatre community providing the voices,” says Power. “It’s a fun way to get together and find out how readers will re-enact some of the sounds sights and activities of classic characters and action.”
Much Ado About Nothing: Shakespeare in the Park (Victoria Park, July 24, 25, 31 and Aug 1) Hubcity Theatre returns to Victoria Park for its annual Shakespeare in the Park. The company is proud to continue offering these performances free to the community. This year Much Ado About Nothing will play in the park. The classic Shakespeare comedy tells the story of two pairs of lovers who all seem destined to be torn apart as they search for that ‘perfect love’.
Roomies (The Capitol Empress, Nov 26, 27, 28) From local playwright Paul David Power, Roomies tells the story of two college roommates: David, a clean cut scholarly student living with a disability and Nick, an arrogant womanizing rebel with a chip on his shoulder. The only thing these two have in common being assigned the same dorm room. Set in the 1960s, this comedy-drama was produced twice in St. John`s NL and captured an award from the Nova Scotia Federation of Writers for outstanding dramatic script.
“We are very excited about our upcoming season and invite everyone to get involved,” says Paul. “Whether you would like to audition for a role, work backstage or just be part of the audience – we have lots of ways for the community to get involved.” For more information and to keep updated on upcoming auditions and events visit www.hubcitytheatre.com or facebook at www.facebook.com/hubcitytheatre .
