Shakespeare in the park returns with Julius Caesar

There’s an election coming and some people will be stabbed in the back.

Nope, it’s not municipal, provincial or federal politics in the spotlight this time – it’s Julius Caesar. Hubcity Theatre returns to Moncton’s Victoria Park this month for its annual Shakespeare in the Park.

“With all the federal and provincial scandals in the news over the past few years we’ll be presenting - what I think- is the most famous political scandal of all—Julius Caesar,” says Paul Power, Director.  “This year’s show is filled with surprises including a modernization of the play, some interesting gender changes in legendary characters and a talented cast – I think audiences will really enjoy it.”

Performances run for three consecutive weekends starting July 18 followed by July 19, 25, 26 and Aug 1, 2. Showtime is at 6:30 p.m. each night in the center of Victoria Park.

“This year we decided to expand our performance schedule to give more people an opportunity to see the show,” says Paul. “So many times we hear people were away on vacation and then of course there’s always the threat of rain cancelling a performance day-this schedule gives us more days to work with.”

Shakespeare in the Park has become an annual community event in Moncton, thanks in part to support from the City of Moncton, allowing Hubcity Theatre to provide free performances.
“We are proud to offer our performances free for the community,” says Paul. “It gives anyone from all walks of life the opportunity to come out and experience live theatre.”
