Comedy of Errors comes to Moncton’s Victoria Park
A case of mistaken identity is causing quite an upheaval at Moncton’s Victoria Park. But not to worry, it’s all in good fun. This month, Hubcity Theatre returns to Moncton’s Victoria Park for its annual Shakespeare in the Park with The Comedy of Errors. The Comedy of Errors is about two sets of identical twins separated as infants, and the absurdity surrounding their accidental reunion years later. Written by William Shakespeare in 1594, the play is a fast paced comedy full of mistaken identities, accusations and misunderstandings. “There's a physicality, and an energy to Shakespeare that I believe lets his work connect with any audience, even hundreds of years after he wrote them ,” says director James Corbett. “This show offers some unique challenges casting, including two sets of identical twins. But we’ve met this challenge with a really fun solution that sets a great artistic style for the show that I think audiences will love. I can't wait for Moncton to see our take on Comedy of Errors."
Hubcity Theatre’s Comedy of Errors runs for two consecutive weekends starting July 22 followed by July 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. each night by the wooden archway in the centre of Victoria Park. Shows are free to the public but donations are gratefully accepted. Hubcity Theatre is a non-profit company. “We are proud to offer our performances free for the community thanks to the ongoing support of the City of Moncton,” says Hubcity Theatre Artistic Director Paul Power. “We’re also thrilled to expand our artistic leadership team with James Corbett taking on directing duties this year. I think our regular audiences and new audiences will really like his vision for the show.”
